With this database thing, it seems that most M3's will quit flying or become VFR only after March 2009.

I notice that my M3 does approaches just fine even with an expired database. The Reference Manual on page 101 sec. 6.1 stated that FliteCard must be current to fly an approach in IMC. However, the Flight Manual Supplement on page 5 sec. B.3. is clear if approach can be done in IMC with expired database; it only says that the pilot need to acknowledge the message and receive a NAV flag during approach with an expired database.

I use my M3 mostly to get home in IMC or VFR. When I use it to go to a new airport, I always verify the approach waypoints match my chart/approach plate during cruise.

I am wondering if the Flight Manual Supplement is amended to authorize approach in IMC provided the pilot verify in advance the expired database has all waypoints matching the current chart, would FAA approve such an amendment, and would that extend the useful life of our M3's pass March 2009?

Has anybody ever found documentation for the database format on the FliteCard? Reverse-engineered it?
