Loran is dead. M3 is orphaned. I really miss my autopilot-coupled navigation device.
What do people recommend that will fit in the same panel space as my lamented M1 and will talk to my autopilot, preferably without too much work needing to be done behind the panel? |

Depends upon your aircraft. I have heard of some people just going with a handheld GPS and installing a Porcine Coupler instead.

I don't have anything to put in place of the M1, so I'm just leaving it there for now...
One thing that you might want to consider before any major avionics upgrade is the fact that currently the FAA has said that we must have ADS-B by 2020. There is a lot to be considered with regards to ADS-B with respect to transponders, GPS, etc. Personally, I would hold off until ADS-B becomes more common so that you are not stuck on the bleeding edge of technology. |
